Baby Killdeer

Don't worry - this little guy isn't hurt. He took off running when I got close, and then realized he was probably doomed, so he hunkered down to avoid detection.

His mom was a few yards away -- and she was letting me know she was pretty upset with me.

We used to have many kildeer families in our area and their antics are fun. Don't know much about birds and not sure why, but
over the last few years the kildeer have all but disappeared and been replaced by mourning doves. But, I miss the baby kildeer hopping around like striped
q-tips, while the parents flopped in mock distress.

My husband loves this picture of the baby kildeer. He mowed around a nest of them on some church property for about 3 weeks for them to mature.
